HOW TO RUN A GOOD CAMPAIGN
From the campaign notes of Hans Kriek, Campaign Director, Save Animals From Exploitation, New Zealand.

Hans KriekGO VEGAN first then:

  1. Give 100%  commitment to the Cause

  2. Don’t be afraid to talk to Industry.
    - Understand their position
    - Educate Yourself
    - Visit farmers

  3. Celebrate diversity within the movement

  4. Ask questions. I.e. How many animals live in stalls here?  How many cows are milked per day? etc

  5. It’s easy to identify the cruelty aspect to the public. Make sure the public know what’s behind closed doors.

  6. Keep the issue black and white in the beginning.

  7. Don’t exaggerate to media and if you want to make a specific point, repeat it a couple of times over until journalists pick it up.

  8. Adjust to changing circumstances

  9. Be willing to listen (not roll over) to others with opposing opinions to your own.  Maintain an open mind.

  10. Campaign on all fronts.  Leave no stone unturned.

  11. Stick to one issue and drive it home.

  12. Get a result before moving on to the next issue.

  13. Go Grassroots campaigning and fight them on all fronts.

  14. Go to the Consumer – get it out there.

  15. Portray yourself at all times as a professional.

  16. Educate people and lay foundations so people know what you are talking about.

  17. If you go in too strongly in the beginning it’s easy to get dismissed. Do your homework on an issue.

  18. For media, be prepared. Have a media pack ready. Provide them with high quality footage. Be well researched and keep it simple.

  19. Slowly let Industry see the errors of their ways.  It might take 3 years to turn them around but let them know we won’t be going away and if they don’t change it will cost them alternatively.

  20. Don’t leave any steps out.

  21. As a general plea, groups must work together.  Talk to each other and don’t critise each other.

  22. The animals and what’s at stake is more important than in-fighting in our movement.

  23. Remember the 1st loyalty is with the animals.

  24. Think of ways of how to initiate the radicals and conservative groups.

  25. Strategically plan your next step and don’t lose sight of the big picture.

  26. Never give up.  We will always be on Industry and the governments’ backs.
