Geoscientist turned whistleblower and activist Leuren Moret speaks with Claudette Vaughan on the dangers of depleted Uranium.
 Abolitionist: As a geological scientist and activist against depleted uranium being used either as a weapon of mass destruction or uranium mining because of health and environmental effects and consequences, what was it that eventually lead you to become a whistleblower against the nuclear industry?
Leuren Moret: I worked at the Lawrence Berkley Laboratory which is a nuclear weapons lab and from where the Manhattan Project was started which incidentally developed the first atomic bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Later on I went out to the Livermore Nuclear Weapons lab, one of the two premier nuclear weapons labs that the US Government maintains in the US. I worked as a geoscientist there. By the way, I’m not a weapons person. There’s a difference. I’m a Quaker, so I’m very anti-war and anti-war technology. In this lab I witnessed so much science fraud, contractor fraud and the horrendous discrimination of women and minorities with absolutely no concern for children, it, to date, is the most disillusioning experience I have ever had.
I was standing in my laboratory one day looking out the window and I said to myself, “ the United States is even worse than the Soviet Union.” Then, I realised that scientists are either prostitutes for the military or for corporations. In that moment I knew I couldn’t work there anymore so I packed up, drove out the gate and never went back.
What is the central core message behind what you want to convey to people who lack the insiders information to what’s going on, Leuren?
What has happened gradually since 1945 with the introduction of nuclear weapons – nuclear bombs, nuclear weapons, dirty bombs, dirty missiles and dirty bullets which is what depleted uranium is – it’s actually a radioactive poison gas weapon. My message to the public is these nuclear technologies including nuclear power plants has turned the entire global atmosphere into a radioactive poison gas chamber and it’s slowly killing all living things. No one can escape and the horrendous increases and chronic illnesses, cancer, diabetes, neurological and neuromuscular disease is exponential since 1945.
All the nuclear testing that’s gone on with the Super Powers has released the equivalent of 40,000 Hiroshima bombs for approximately a 20-year period into the atmosphere, devastating public health and the environment. Since 1991 the US and Britain have released the equivalent of 400,000 atomic bombs into the global atmosphere and the countries where they have used depleted uranium weaponry is Iraq, Yugoslavia, Afghanistan and Israel used US bombs in Lebanon, these places are completely uninhabitable and within hours the Israeli attack on Lebanon was a nuclear attack on itself because the depleted uranium particles – nano particles - drifted immediately all over Israel.
There’s the war side of using depleted uranium but also there’s the uranium mining aspect of this, which is big in Australia since we indiscriminately export so much uranium to other countries. Nuclear power plants cannot operate without regular, deliberate releases of radioactive liquids, gases and particles into the environment during their routine, everyday operation. What this means is one doesn’t need an accident or a war to contaminate. If a nuclear power plant is operating, the danger exists. In Australia, and I’m sure it’s the same in the US, there’s a big rush to get nuclear power plants installed all around the globe without any debate taking place. This is not unlike the situation right before the pre-emptive strike in Iraq I might add. Not only that but recently there was a earthquake in Japan which has affected one of its nuclear power plants and this has also previously happened in Malaysia. What’s curious about these nuclear power plants is they have all been built (see A Hard Rain) on earthquake fault lines. Why? Would you care to comment?
Yes, I’d like to comment. This is all about carrying out further depopulation experiments on the civilian population around the world. If you look on any map where nuclear plants have been situated you will see that nuclear power plants are strategically up-wind from large population areas. They are installed for a nuclear war against the world citizens. I have collected 6000 baby teeth with independent scientists from children living around nuclear power plants. We measured the Strontium 90 in the baby teeth. Strontium 90 replaces calcium in the body. Calcium is a strategic metal in the body and we found that Strontium 90 levels are even higher now than uranium atmospheric testing. There’s no way to use nuclear technologies without nuking yourself and everyone around you. At the bottom of it all the Queen of England owns the mineral rights to Australia and to Canada and those are the two biggest uranium areas in the world with deposits. Let’s not forget Africa as well. The Queen herself is probably the richest woman in the world due to uranium mining, refining and sales but we have to look beyond her to her business managers, the Rothschild’s that represents the City of London. They control uranium prices and supplies around the world and they are the managers of the Queen.
Last month you presented a mind-blowing speech at the 9/100 Truth Conference in Vancouver, Canada that every thinking person should be exposed to. In this speech you spoke about the link between diabetes, depleted uranium and cancer epidemics, on world depopulation and genocide programs and on the shadow government overall plan for humanity as such. Tell us more about that, Leuren.
At this Conference I spoke about depopulation and how it’s being carried out and by whom. It’s a vast topic that’s very clear that from WW2 on depopulation has been the primary goal of the military. The military serves the ruling elite as well as the criminal world. The Ruling Elite can only stay in power with that kind of insulation from citizens who certainly don’t want to be in slavery but it’s difficult for them to have control of their own environment, lives and well being. The City of London, the Ruling Elite and the Energy Companies are trying to privatize water now. One can live without nuclear energy but not without water. This over-throw of legitimate governments around the world is happening very quickly. What’s also happening is first world countries are being brought down to second world level. You’ll notice that a lot of European countries are not as wealthy as before the EU was formed. The US is now in the process of regionalising Canada, the United States and Mexico with one currency like the Euro. It’s called the Amero.
Why are they depopulating? If we weren’t using World Bank agricultural technologies and we reverted to indigenous technologies which respond to the local micro climate and the plans which are adapted to that climate we could produce 10 times as much food that we are now producing per acre and it’s about 5 times more nutritious as well. The whole food supply and who’s running it is a big piece of the picture. The genetically modified foods is being used as a bio weapon. If you look at a map of Hawaii there are two Islands that have been taken over by Monsanto and their genetically modified foods. Those two islands have very high rates of cancer all over the entire vicinity. There’s no military there. The only thing that’s there is the GM Food experimentation. They even wanted to genetically modify Taro in Hawaii. Only a few thousand people over there eat Taro. Why do they want to genetically modify it for? There’s no reason at all unless they want to reduce the Hawaiian population, which is what is happening.
Since 9/11 it’s heartening to see, via the internet, the amount of people questioning what’s happening in the world today, why is depleted uranium being deployed in certain places around the globe and why Amerika has wiped out over a million people off the face of the earth in Iraq without much media on it. Will activists on the ground be enough to stop them because activists on the ground don’t change political policies. Politicians do and this is where they appear to have it stitched up.
It seems over-whelming and it seems helpless but they want us to think that. I can tell you from my own meager tiny efforts to expose this, you really can do tremendous things and have a very big impact once you begin to ask and to try. Somehow a path opens and people begin to help. It’s really a Global Movement that will stop it and the thing that really tricked us was Hawaii. No-one ever believed that Hawaii had been turned into a radioactive paradise but virtually the entire environment in Hawaii – the islands, beaches, oceans, the atmosphere – has been contaminated with radiation. To prove it I compared cancer rates in England 1850 to 1960 to cancer rates in Hawaii in 1963 which was the peak of their atomic testing. The reason I wanted to do that was the Atomic Energy Commission wrote a letter to Nature, a prestigious science journal in England. In 1973 it listed countries all over the world where they had measured plutonium levels, the same plutonium used in atomic bombs and another isotope which is much hotter used in spacecrafts and energy source and the highest levels measured were in Hawaii because they had the highest rainfall. Cancer of the lungs had increased one hundred and four fold.
A recent visit by you to Hawaii uncovered elevated radiation readings, using a hand-held Geiger counter on the Big Island. Over a 2-hour period the Geiger counter went as high as 93. What is the normal count expectancy and also the Army’s response to this exposure has been unfortunately quite typical. They say depleted munitions has not and has never been used on the Hawaiian Islands. Are they still maintaining that position?
On Tuesday they finally admitted that everything that I had said and reported was correct. I went to Hawaii in October because I started a State Legislature in the Depleted Uranium Bill Movement about 2 years ago. There have been over 30 Bills introduced into State Legislature and I did this because these poor soldiers including Australian soldiers all set out to the uranium battlefield and the uranium wars and they are contaminated almost immediately. They come home sick and most governments just flick them to the curve then get new recruits to send off to do the same thing to. After WW2 we had a medical disability rate of US Veterans of 5%. After Vietnam it was 10%. Since 1991 our medical disability rate is over 55% and that is because of the use of depleted uranium. DU does add synergistically with chemicals and biological agents. They multiply the effects of each other 8, 10 or more times. This is happening to Australian soldiers too who are being sent to Iraq, Afghanistan, Yugoslavia, Lebanon or were peacekeepers in any of these countries. It’s really a huge deception the US has gone to and misinformed the Department of Defense in Australia on how to set the instruments for measuring the depleted uranium levels in Australian soldiers. They tricked the Ministry of Defense and told them to set detection levels higher than contamination levels so to get a ‘non-detect’ signal to show these soldiers were non-contaminated when they most certainly were.
I informed the people in October, 2006. They did not believe me. They said they had no idea there was any radiation in Hawaii and that’s when I started doing air monitoring. One facility is called Pohakuloa. It’s an army artillery range up in the saddle between two volcanoes and we did get elevated levels. Now 20 counts per minute is considered to be background levels. Anything above 20 counts a minute is contamination. Around the facility we did get 32 counts per minute and it was the highest. Then we went down the coast, 35ks away and it was very breezy that day. The wind was blowing towards us from the training range and for 2 hours it was going up and down in the 70’s and 80’s and peaked at 93. That’s about 10 times what’s normal. In the evening when the breeze had died down and it came from the west, from the ocean, the counter dropped for 3-7 counts per minute so that was fresh air.
My supporters videotaped me doing the readings and we had it on Dick Allgire’s KITV Hawaii news. The rest is history because that little 2 ½ minute story has had almost 21,000 viewers in 2 months and it has created a depleted uranium storm around the world. People are outraged and I have been contacted from people in all parts of the world and they want to buy Geiger counters which I advised the Hawaiian citizens to do to air monitor. The military really can’t use depleted uranium in Hawaii any more because the citizens are doing all the air monitoring.
We have to do this ourselves because we have no choice.
They are poisoning us. 39 States in the United States are contaminated from depleted uranium that was used secretly on the bombing and gunnery ranges and also from manufacturing and testing. Any military base anywhere in the world has most likely been contaminated with depleted uranium. They are selling all bombing and gunnery ranges now in the US for $1.00 to contractors to build housing tracts and then they sell them to either native Hawaiians or to black families or to poor families. In this radioactive housing area they just keep dying of cancer and other diseases. Cancer is the least common disease caused by depleted uranium exposure.
The Tasmanian Devil in Tasmania, Australia is dying en mass of a rare kind of facial deformity. Activists have put it down to the poison 1080 and you have said it’s because of uranium mining.
I have studied wildlife biology in Berkley, California. They have a fabulous wildlife department and so I know all about wildlife and of course Tasmania is like a biological museum for marsupials. You are so isolated there. There was a rancher from Alberta who came to that 9/11 Truth Conference and brought a lot of data and information to me on the Tasmanian Devil. I was horrified to discover that 50% of the population has declined since 1993. He and I started researching this and we found information on the mining industry in Australia and in 1993 the Australian Mining Industry increased mining to 12 months a year where previously they had just mined for 6 months and then milled for 6 months. I have information that uranium has been measured in the atmosphere on the west coast of Tasmania so I looked at the reports and found there’s actually cancer in the mouth of the Tasmanian Devil. What’s very interesting is this started in 1993 when uranium production doubled.
We are seeing in the Gulf War soldiers and civilians in the dominated countries that they get cancer within months of exposure to uranium. I can demonstrate that the Tasmanian Devil is being exterminated with this uranium. It is an unfortunate consequence of uranium mining and exposure.
And we have to ask ourselves what is this doing to people?
